You know how once in a blue moon, you come across a space that is just perfectly suited to you and your style? You admire every single detail, and there is not one single element that you don’t just love and adore?
Well, I came across that room on Pinterest last week, and I cannot get over this picture of a bathroom by Kaemingk Design (formerly known as MAKE KING). I love it all, but my favorite two things are the floor tile and the walk-in shower. I think the tile pattern is so different and unique from anything we are used to seeing, but they used the familiar small hex tiles to create the pattern. It is such a fresh take on a classic element. However, it is really the walk-in shower that gets me! I love the fact that they did a beautifully draped curtain instead of a glass enclosure. I know that the glass showers are sleek, and allow you to show off the tile work in a shower. BUT!!! OMG, who wants to make a lifelong commitment to squeegee the shower after every single shower? I didn’t realize it when I bought my house, but if you don’t keep up with cleaning the glass, it will etch over time. AND YOU WILL NEVER BE ABLE TO MAKE IT LOOK CLEAN, AND YOU WILL BRING SHAME UPON YOUR FAMILY!!!! I thought the glass was dirty when we bought our house, but turns out it was actually etched. The owners of this bath will never have that problem, and I think the overall effect looks so beautiful and restrained.
When I saw this picture, I immediately started to stalk the designers (in a non-creepy way) on Pinterest, Instagram, Houzz, etc. Turns out they are a husband and wife team, Brandt and Chelsea Kaemingk. Their style is so elegant and sophisticated, I really expected them to be much older and seasoned architects or something. They are really an adorable young couple. However, judging by their portfolio, they are definitely seasoned pros! Located in Portland, Oregon they do amazing work that incorporates architectural salvage into the home in a modern and beautiful way. They primarily focused on rehabbing homes in the Portland market, but they just announced they will be taking on clients interested in their design and architectural services. Everything they touch just becomes elegant and gorgeous. Definitely worth checking out their site, Kaemingkdesign. Then you should follow them on Instagram, move to Portland, and buy a fixer upper home with loads of potential, and then hire them to transform your property into the home of your dreams.
Here is a sample of some of their incredible work:
