Am I the only person in the world who appreciates a comfortable seat? I cannot believe that I am. Surely everyone enjoys a plush place to perch whilst they tip back a frosty beverage or pick through an appetizer platter. Which is why I do not understand how there are so many bar and restaurant establishments that expect me to sit on a rock hard slab of wood or a metal stool with no backrest! The horror. Moreover, these are not cheap roadside stand type places; I understand there is a place for strict utility for sure. I am talking about trendy restaurants and chichi bars that charge some nice prices for their menu options. “Oh, this cocktail is $21? Cool. Do you have anything more comfortable than a pointy rock for me to sit on while I choke it down?” Ambiance is important in commercial design. If you are not charging fast food prices then don’t ask me to sit on a bench made out of pallet wood that probably never got sanded down; spring for an honest to goodness comfy seat. Even if you have to buy it! I want it all: Flattering lighting, no distracting hullabaloo noise, visual harmony, and a COMFORTABLE SEAT! (It should go without saying that the food and drink should be delicious.) Upholstery is a nice touch, but it is not necessary if the seat is well—designed. The chairs at Cracker Barrel are solid oak, but they are still comfortable. Ergonomics go a long way!
I know this is a weird rant, but I am so over the uncomfortable seating that looks cool. Let’s take a moment to celebrate comfort. We can do better people! Who is with me? Hygge for life!
