Bellingrath Gardens

In this part of the south, we have a spectacular flower season.  Late in the year, during the month of November, ornamental camellia trees start to flower. My hometown is called the Camellia City, and a multitude of varieties burst with colors of white, pink, and crimson all through the winter until March when the last of the bloomers begin to fade. Before the camellia bloom completely fades, in late February the azalea buds start to open. Azaleas grow well down here in the panhandle of Florida; they love our acidic soil. At the same time, wisteria vines you never would have noticed during the rest of the year gracefully drape themselves over the landscape. The humidity is low, the temperatures are mild, and the community spirits are high. I think it is the prettiest time of year here. Continue reading “Bellingrath Gardens”

Take a Seat

Am I the only person in the world who appreciates a comfortable seat? I cannot believe that I am. Surely everyone enjoys a plush place to perch whilst they tip back a frosty beverage or pick through an appetizer platter. Which is why I do not understand how there are so many bar and restaurant establishments that expect me to sit on a rock hard slab of wood or a metal stool with no backrest! The pretty zinc countertops from Kaemingk Design.

Countertops! Once upon a time, American kitchens without question had laminate (also known as formica) countertops. That was what you did. This is a picture of me trying to take a picture of the kid’s bathroom remodel I just finished up. Hopefully, I will be posting pictures from this project very soon. It turned out to be really beautiful!

I have been pretty quiet lately on here. Sorry, I have been in a little bit of a funk. Things seem to be turning around though lately. The truth is, a lot of the reason why I haven’t been blogging is because I always feel like I am not up to snuff visually. I follow a ton of designers and professional brands on Instagram, and I always love seeing the pictures that they post. Continue reading “I am back, again.”

Kid’s Bath Reno

It is kind of funny how I found my latest client. She is a friend and colleague of the Cutie Casita client that I am finishing up with now (pics are coming soon!!!) She approached me in order to “just get my opinion” and see if she was “making any mistakes.” I told her, very gently, that the light fixture she picked was probably too elegant and glamorous for the bathroom she was remodeling for her boys. She protested and explained that she LOVED that light fixture. As an act of generosity and charity, I told her that choosing this light was going to be the single biggest mistake of her life and bring SHAME to her entire family!!!
